In its inaugural showcase in the heart of New York City, FFORME made a statement at the DiMenna Center, a space renowned for its experimental ethos and live performances. As FFORME continues to evolve, so does its unique lexicon, one characterized by calculated compositions of shapes, space, and movement. The SS24 collection reflects a meticulous exploration of observation, transforming moments of beauty into wearable art while adhering to FFORME’s timeless aesthetic principles.
The collection highlights an asymmetrical column dress, an ode to the subtle beauty of the world. Inspired by the rippling sails of a fishing boat transitioning from brown to pink, it captures the essence of transformation. Another piece, a hammered silk lamé, mirrors the sun’s glint upon the water, seamlessly bridging the transition from day to evening. These garments are marked by an interplay of light and shadow, captivating the senses with their textured relief.
The SS24 collection delves into the metamorphosis of menswear into feminine silhouettes, showcasing a duality between holding and releasing, a design philosophy that permeates each creation. FFORME’s architectural approach is both precise and deliberately elusive. Garments are fully fashioned to anticipate the body’s contours, whether rib-stitch knits with bra detailing and back straps or a curving halter dress crafted from jersey. Some designs defy traditional tailoring conventions, like the relaxed coat with raglan sleeves. Meanwhile, pants, culottes, and shorts feature intricate pin tucks and waistband darts, a signature touch. Among these pieces is a tunic dress, its hidden zippers enabling the transformation from a shirt to a tunic, which is a testament to the brand’s modular wardrobe.
Ensemble options are tiered, layered, and overlapping, embodying a casual approach to appearing fully dressed. FFORME’s surfaces maintain a sleek, smooth quality, as seen in the felted wool of a cashmere cardigan and the near-seamless metallic leather hoodie. The color palette resonates with pillar tones of black, navy, crème, and off-white, complemented by a spectrum of sea rose, deep amber cady, blushed silk crepe, and earthy knits in shades of taupe and pink.
Throughout the collection, FFORME remains committed to raw beauty, fostering an alignment between inner and outer selves and highlighting attire’s profound role in communicating one’s identity. As Paul Helbers, the visionary behind the designer brand, notes, “At the end, what I try to do is break down rules, and with that comes a different way of dressing. There is a kind of freedom in that.”
The showcase was accompanied by Lesley Mok, a percussionist and interdisciplinary artist known for her classical minimalism. Her drumming style, distinctive and introspective, breathed life into the garments, adding an extra layer of artistry to the event.
FFORME’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection, marked by a fusion of elements inspired by the world around us, transcends the boundaries of fashion with meticulous attention to detail, innovative designs, and commitment to self-expression through attire.
