#GivingTuesday is a Chance to Give Back to the Independent Fashion Community

The Black Friday sales have come and gone, and while your wallet may be looking a bit thin, it’s important to remember the true purpose of the holiday season; to give back.

As part of the #GivingTuesday initiative started by the 92Y nonprofit organization, here’s 3 ways that YOU can give back to the fashion community without breaking the bank:

1. Promote charitable fashion brands
While it may not seem like much, many non-profit organizations heavily rely on volunteer-based promotion from loyal fans, especially within the fashion community. Below we’ve listed a few inspirational, charitable fashion brands that are making a difference around the world. Simply select the brand that resonates with you and share their website or social media accounts with your followers:

Feel More Better
Fetch Eyewear
Live Fashionably
Skyline Socks
Out Of Print
Fashionable
The Little Market

2. Shop local
Planning to start your Christmas shopping this week? Keep it local! Avoid fast fashion retail chains, such as Target and Walmart, and instead – purchase gifts for family and friends from small fashion boutiques within your community. Not only will the quality of your purchase be significantly better, you’ll be helping to keep your local fashion community afloat.

3. Donate your time and/or expertise
Whether you’re a blogger, a designer, or simply work in retail, volunteering both your time and expertise is a great way to give back to the local fashion community. Visit volunteermatch.org and browse through the various fashion-related volunteer opportunities in your area. And who knows, maybe you’ll make a few beneficial connections along the way!

Above all else, stay conscious and aware this holiday season. Remember that YOU, yourself, can make a difference in the fashion community, and it all starts with giving back.
