In Art & Photography by Melissa Shea

As a photographer, there are no bounds to your imagination. In fact, you’ve probably spent many a hour fantasying about the incredible project you would create if only you had the time, the money, and the equipment.

According to WWD, Hermès International’s philanthropic arm will support the next three editions of the  Prix Henri Cartier-Bresson international photography prize, in 2013, 2015 and 2017.

The prize grants a photographer approximately $45,000 to realize a project that they could not have undertaken without the financial support. Your creation would be exhibited at Paris’ Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson, as well as the publication of a catalog.

In edition to donating almost $200,000, the Fondation d’Entreprise Hermès will give the winning artist the opportunity to exhibit in its own photography in spaces around the world. The ideal candidate is a photographer who has already completed a significant body of work, and is in the emerging phase of his or her career. The favored style is documentary.

The last award was given in 2011 to English photographer Vanessa Winship for her project “Out there: an American Odyssey”. While she is celebrated for her work in the Balkins, her exhibition featuring her American project will be shown at the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson in spring 2013.
