April Hooper

I've always loved putting together outfits and using fashion as a way to express myself. I really wanted to have a career that I was passionate about, so I knew pursuing fashion would be the perfect way to go.

Hannah Calabrese

Fashion to me is the easiest way to express exactly who you are, and I love that it can change at any moment.

Purnima Priyadarsini

I want to pursue business journalism because it makes me feel very empowered. I chose to start it in the fashion industry because of my interest in experimenting with style, and this industry will give me plenty of chances to do so. I must learn new things regularly, which is why I look forward to working in the industry, which is very liberalizing to ideas and opinions.

Sarah Rabiah

I have always had an interest in fashion. With many health issues, I always found a way to shift the focus away from illnesses through fashion to make me feel more comfortable around others. As a business student and cancer survivor, I found a gap in the market I wanted to dominate. I fell even more in love with fashion trying to merge fashion with fitness.

Victoria Villano

I have always been interested in the fashion industry! I originally wanted to be a designer after watching and loving Project Runway, but my vision eventually changed and I am now in visual communications & visual design. I always wanted to be a part of this industry because of how huge it is. I feel that it is an industry where there is always something new to learn and I love that!

Yifan Zhao

When I was a little girl, I had a dream about working in the fashion industry. So I applied to a master's program focusing on business in fashion. I hope to work as a fashion buyer or fashion merchandiser in the future.

Intern Tips

How has an internship in fashion allowed you to learn more about the industry?

Having internships in the fashion industry allows you to learn that there is so much more to it than just the glamour shown to the public. Although we all have had different experiences, different internships, and different job responsibilities, we all agree how important networking is. In order to achieve your dreams you must start connecting with professionals now as an intern! Interning allows you to have a glimpse into what your future career could look like, and explore multiple options before work full time.

What tips do you have for other students on getting an internship?

1. Attend Career Fairs

Many schools and universities host career fairs, and networking events where students can meet industry professionals. This is a great way to get your name out there, and start making connections. When attending career fairs in person make sure to have your updated resume, and give it to those you connect with. Even if that person does not have internship opportunities they may know someone!

2. Updating Your Resume

Having an updated resume is one of, if not the most important aspect of getting an internship and making connections. A good resume includes your name, contact info, objective, skills, experience, education, and anything else that an employer might want to see. Make sure it is easy to read, and authentic to you.

3. Follow Up After An Interview

Interviewers talk to, and interview so many people you may get lost in the mix. After interviewing with a company we recommend sending a follow up email thanking them for the interview.

4. Don't be afraid to apply

You never know where you may get your start. The worst thing they can say is no, but someday someone will give you a yes.

How Do I Get The Most Of My Internship?

The more you put into your internship the more you get out of it. Every internship will allow you to walk out knowing more than you did prior. Look for the positives and always put your best foot forward. Ask questions when you are confused or need clarification. Most supervisors like hearing your questions, and enjoy helping you learn.
