Marc Jacobs Tells Fern Mallis He Hasn’t Made It…

The 92nd Street Y was buzzing with socialites and fashionistas as they came out to listen to Marc Jacobs in the hot seat with fashion industry leader and award-winning creator of New York Fashion Week Fern Mallis at the Fashion Icons Talks with Marc Jacobs hosted by MARTINI Sparkling Wines. We are used to Ms. Mallis wowing us with her off the cuff and inspiring interviews as part of her ongoing series Fashion Icons with Fern Mallis, but this guest, we must say, was a huge treat.

Over 900 guests, fashion designer Geoffrey Banks, featured buyer for Saks Fifth Avenue on NBC’s Fashion Star Terron Schaefer, CEO of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Steven Kolb and fashion editor and stylist Jenny Capitain gathered in the Kauffman Hall to hear the man with “no regrets” speak. Jacobs says he’s “perfectly imperfect” (referring to the meaning of the word “perfect” tattooed on his wrist).

Nothing was off the table as Fern touched upon everything from his former substance abuse, numerous stints in rehab, the insecurities of never feeling like he’s made it, thoughts on marriage to the early death of his father. When asked about his numerous accolades, including being the youngest professional to win the Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent and winning the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America Award) for Terron Schaefer multiple times, he said “I don’t believe in awards”.  In fact, the reason he “likes” award ceremonies is for the sole purpose of being able to publically thank everyone who has helped him along the way.

Special thanks to the wonderful team at MARTINI for hosting this fantastic event and sharing it with us.
