NYFW Day 3 Fall Winter 2016

NYFW Fall Winter 2016 Day 3 Trend Report

In Fashion Design, Fashion Marketing, Fashion Week, New York Fashion Week by Shalanda Turner

Featuring: Rebecca Minkoff, Leanne Marshall, Monique Lhuillier, Christian Siriano, Altuzarra, Alexander Wang, & Dion Lee

REBECCA MINKOFF
I don’t know if it was ankle-length pants with the bell-bottom hems, or the boho vibe of the dresses, but Rebecca Minkoff’s collection screamed 70s to me. There was fringe, and tons of bow front necklines. Rebecca is also a fan of showing shoulders so whether it was an off the shoulder top or a cold-shoulder neckline, the shoulders were there for all to see. I liked Rebecca’s use of pastels for her color palette. The collection was mostly monochromatic with the exception of a few prints sprinkled here and there.

LEANNE MARSHALL
Leanne Marshall, is a dress maker. There’s no other way to describe the plethora of dress after dress that came down the runway.  As the winner of Project Runway Season 5, it was only a matter of time before Leanne’s clothes would become a staple on the red carpet. She’s a master at draping and that was apparent with the dresses that at loose silhouettes and flowy fabrics. I loved her use of sheer fabrics and her ball gowns near the end of the collection were stunning. I for sure would love to be photographed in a Leanne Marshall dress.

MONIQUE LHUILLIER
Sheer fabrics aren’t the first thing that come to mind when I think of Fall and Winter clothing, but a lot of designers this week have heavily featured this fabric choice, including Ms. Lhuillier. Monique had quite the embellishments on her collection, including 3-D appliques! I definitely loved the asymmetrical hems on a few of her gowns near the end of the collection. Monique Lhuillier never disappoints when it comes to showcasing a fabulous collection.

ALTUZARRA
Altuzarra’s runway was full of prints, layering and accessories. Whether it was the bib – esque overlay, the thick infiniti wrapped scarves, or the printed boots, this collection definitely set the bar for awesome.

ALEXANDER WANG
If Alexander Wang had a message to convey he certainly did with his collection. Pieces in the collection were adorned with words like strict, faded, girls, tender. There must have been some other message going on that he wanted to share because there were several tops with the silhouette of a girl and a pole on them.  I’m normally not the go crazy over Alexander Wang collections gal, because I’m not really bandwagon, but I have to say I liked this one more than those of the past! It was urban and exciting.

CHRISTIAN SIRIANO
Everything about Christian Siriano’s collection screamed Boss B****! Excuse my French, but those models looked like they could conquer the world and take no prisoners. The ladies in these clothes are executives in the corner office who dare someone to question their wardrobe choices. They are the epitome of “too cool for school”. If I saw a woman walking down the street in one of these looks I’d double take and think, “Wow, I want to dress like her when I grow up!”. From the fit of the knits, to the styling of the models, I loved everything in this collection.

DION LEE
Dion Lee’s collection gave me the same sort of galactic vibe that I read off of Pamella Roland’s collection. He had fun with the sleeves bringing back that puffy arm look that was popular a few seasons ago. He also brought back the circle hem. At least that’s what I call that design.
