FASHION WEEK HIGHLIGHTS: Day One saw Kanye West dressing the entire Jenner/Kardashian clan in Balmain x Yeezy for the debut of Season 3 of Yeezy. Naomi Campbell was one of the models during the presentation that doubled as a launch for Ye’s already controversial album: “The Life of Pablo”.  Day 2 saw the debut of Rihanna’s first collection for Puma: Fenty x Puma. Power sisters, Bella and Gigi Hadid modeled in the singer’s collection. Rihanna is the Global Ambassador and Women’s Creative Director for Puma. Today’s trend report is featuring:  Fenty x Puma, Tadashi Shoji, Pamella Roland, Cushnie Et Ochs, Nicole Miller, Sophie Theallet, and Francesca Liberatore

FENTY X PUMA
The collection talked about the most on Day 2 of New York Fashion Week did not belong to an old timer. This year it was Rihanna’s debut collection for Puma; titled Fenty x Puma that garnered all the attention. The collection screamed RiRi. I really liked the looks that had full body shoe lace detailing. They made me think of tennis shoes. The collection was activewear meets street.

PAMELLA ROLAND
Pamella Roland’s collection was absolutely breathtaking. To me, her collection was a three way mash-up between ethereal, interplanetary costumes, and regality. Her collection could easily be used to dress a cast for a new space odyssey.  I loved the long hems of fringe, the shimmery fabrics, and the cut-outs.  If I were to wear one of these dresses, I’d imagine myself as an ice queen on some far away planet! There I go — letting my imagination run away with me, but regardless, her collection was stunning, from the silhouettes to the colors.

SOPHIE THEALLET
I perceived a strong sense of regality, as well, during Sophie Theallet’s runway. Her collection made me think of queens, but instead of planetary queens, more queens of old (think Queen Elizabeth and Mary, Queen of Scots)!  The silhouettes had high necklines, larger than life pockets and bow detailing. There was even a floor length overcoat. Sophie had some contemporary pieces where she delved into mixing prints.  There was also a lot of skin to be seen between the deep V necklines, sheer fabrics, barely-there tops, and high slits.

CUSHNIE ET OCHS
Slinky and sexy are two words that come to mind when I checked out Cushnie et Ochs’ F/W collection. Some of the dresses reminded me of slips, but nice enough to wear out in public. Other dresses hugged the female body in all the right places. Cushnie et Ochs up’d the ante with their color scheme adding a nice shade of metallic gold to the mix. I personally enjoyed the rich hues of red that were used on the dresses at the end of the collection. Cushnie et Ochs brought back old Hollywood glamour with opera gloves but made with leather and a baggier fit for an edgy remix.

TADASHI SHOJI
If there was an award for best prints on Day 2, the award would go to Tadashi Shoji.  The Aztec prints in his Fall Winter collection appealed to my inner maximalist. But it was more than just the prints that caught my eye.  Every season I’m used to Tadashi sending a plethora of dresses and floor-length gowns down the runway, but this collection was edgy and featured silhouettes, that to me, seemed new for Tadashi. From skintight body suits to the styling of  the models’ hair and makeup, Tadashi was showing something different.

NICOLE MILLER
While Tadashi Shoji focused on Aztec prints, Nicole Miller featured  a plethora of prints from florals to plus signs. One of my favorites was the multicolored, printed striped pattern. It reminded me of a stack of colorful fabric ribbons and of Christmas sweaters; which incidentally is perfect for the winter season. However, I don’t think you’ll receive an ‘Ugly Christmas Sweater’ award with these prints!

FRANCESCA LIBERATORE
Liberatore’s collection was unique and had a Japanese feel to it with the color scheme, leather wrap belts, and some kimono-inspired wraps. Francesca had two big repeating patterns that resembled the letter M and the letter X.  They appeared frequently throughout the collection. Francesca’s collection was mostly black and off-white, but I love how she introduced some color into the collection with a bold red leather neckline accessory and some colorful jackets. Francesca’s ideas for outerwear really elevate the coat into a look all by itself. These jacket would be great for a rainy day!
